Well *that’s* an interesting discovery. Seems to be a development tool for the CD-i version of Myst. https://archive.org/details/myst-language-conversion-kit-mac-hfs
Cleaned the case already and it looks pretty nice. This is the third time I'm giving an Atari ST a chance to convince me 😄
Disassembling an #Atari 1040 STFM and noticing that it seems to have gotten a RAM upgrade. Haven't even tested it, as I tend to clean the stuff I get before using it, especially home computers. If it works, I'll be even more lucky.
We've all heard floppy drives used to play music, but have you ever seen somebody playing one live? https://hackaday.com/2022/06/09/live-floppy-music-adds-elegance-to-any-event/

Open call for obsolete sounds! This project is really fascinating. They're requesting recordings of sounds from our environment, old tech, etc. that are no longer commonplace and then those will be reimagined by sound artists "to draw attention to the world’s disappearing soundscapes." https://citiesandmemory.com/2022/05/open-call-your-field-recordings-of-obsolete-sounds-wanted/
Happy #525FloppyDay ! May there be no read errors today, may your cleaning disk remain unused and your floppy drives be well lubricated.

After I watched the video by 8bit Show & Tell about the Bally Computer System aka Astrocade aka Videocade, I find myself really longing to own one of these. It even had pretty great version of Pac-Man and Wizard of Wor. A quick search on ebay pulled me down to earth: There are next no no systems available and the one or two that are, are pretty expensive. But now that I've seen it, I will keep an eye out for this. On the bright side, at least quite a few games can be found NOS.
slower computers, please
I'm a computer guy, but I'm very much over fast computers. Most of your computer's resources are wasted loading ads and trackers on webpages. Video games require more and more power to deliver less interesting experiences. Don't get me started on cryptocurrency. Computers are getting increasingly complex, therefore less reliable, nearly impossible to repair, wasteful, and devastating to the environment. We need #slowcomputers and more #retrocomputing
Okay so yesterday I posted a photo of a #Nintendo #NES while a friend used a lightgun, and now this post is gone. I did not get any notification that it was violating any rules here, no idea what happened. It's just deleted, as it seems. #mastodon #retrogaming
